Hi I’m Tom (any pronouns). I’ve been working as a dietitian since graduating in 2015 in a variety of settings including private practice and inpatient mental health programs treating eating disorders and substance use disorder. My current practice areas of interest are:
- mental health, including eating disorders & substance use disorders
- LGBTIQA+ health including gender affirming nutrition support
- men’s health with a focus hypogonadism (low testosterone)
- size inclusive care (non-diet approaches to health and wellbeing)
I offer supervision to dietitians wishing to enhance their skills in working in these areas and have run webinars and workshops through ANZAED, Dietitians Australia, in collaboration with The Mindful Dietitian, and Eating Disorders Families Australia (EDFA).
In order to best support the people I work with I have undertaken additional training in the following treatment modalities and incorporate elements of these into my work (note: it’s outside of of a dietitians scope of practice to fully implement these treatment modalities but having an understanding/awareness can compliment the work you are doing with your therapist/counsellor):
- Temperament Based Therapy with Support (TBT-s)
- Specialist Supportive Clinical Management (SSCM)
- Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Enhanced Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT-e)
- Dialectic Behaviour Therapy (DBT) & Radically Open Dialectic Behaviour Therapy (RO-DBT)
- Provision of Trauma Informed dietetic care
